Farming at Ashcombe is managed by R&P Farming Ltd, a local family-run business responsible for a significant area of land across the estate. While operating at scale, the farms retain a strong personal touch, with family members
living on and actively managing the land.
The farming enterprise spans 1,000 acres of arable and pasture, some managed under Higher Level Stewardship schemes. The farm has its focus on minimum tillage, alongside the careful management of hedgerows and watercourses, to
ensure both productive agriculture and environmental responsibility.
Areas of SSSI heathland and a Scheduled Monument are also maintained, protecting these important natural and historic features for future generations.
In addition, the Estate manages around 600 acres of forestry under a 20-year plan agreed with the Forestry Commission. These woodlands are carefully balanced for both conservation and commercial use, producing quality timber and fuel
wood through sustainable harvesting while enhancing the overall landscape.
