The Ashcombe Shooting Ground is the Estate’s dedicated outdoor activity centre, with a history as distinctive as the landscape itself. Originally established in the 1980s as a pick-your-own fruit
farm, the first adventure playground was created—somewhat ingeniously—to keep children occupied and away from the strawberry fields. While health and safety standards may have been a little more relaxed in those days, the concept
proved enduring.
By the early 1990s, the idea had evolved into a fully fledged Adventure Centre, which over the following two decades developed into the Ashcombe Shooting Ground. Today, it stands as one of the South West’s few permanent, professional
clay shooting facilities, open year-round.
The ground features an extensive layout, including a high tower, sporting stands, and skeet ranges, catering to all abilities. One-to-one instruction is particularly popular, whether for beginners or those looking to refine their technique.
In addition to shooting, visitors can enjoy a Quad Bike Safari and archery, making it an ideal destination for groups, families, and corporate experiences.
Guests are welcome to book expert instruction or simply turn up and shoot.
Since 2001, the business has been operated by estate tenants. In 2022, The Sportsman Gun Centre took over management and has since been investing in upgrades and modernisation, with the aim of establishing Ashcombe as a premier
shooting destination. The Quad Bike operation, run by Devon Leisure, is also under new management, bringing fresh energy to the Estate’s activity offering.
