Sporting Shoot

The Ashcombe Estate offers an exceptional and highly exclusive sporting shoot, celebrated for delivering a world-class driven shooting experience. Originally laid out in the late 1800s by the Earls of Lisburne, the shoot was meticulously designed across hilltop woodlands and rolling Devon countryside to provide a truly sporting challenge—an unrivalled combination of terrain, views, and flight paths.

Privately owned and managed—a rarity in today’s world—Ashcombe hosts select friends, private groups, and roving syndicates, offering an intimate and highly personalised experience. Adam Eaton has been Gamekeeper since 2020, bringing energy and attention to detail. from the 2026 season, Oliver Bargery will manage and run the Ashcombe Shoot, adding his wealth of expertise and commitment to excellence.

Set across rolling hills exceeding 900 feet and along the prestigious Haldon Ridge east of Dartmoor National Park, the estate features four natural valleys that create elevated drives with high birds soaring over open grassland, alongside select woodland drives for a diverse and stimulating challenge. Several drives are particularly demanding, designed to test the most experienced guns.

Sustainability is at the heart of the shoot. Bag sizes are carefully controlled, and all game is fully utilised—presented for shoot lunches, elevenses, or processed for restaurants and direct sale.

Beyond the sport itself, the shoot underpins the estate’s wider stewardship. It provides seasonal employment for over 30 people and directly supports the maintenance of non-commercial woodland, planting of wild-bird cover crops, and broader countryside conservation—ensuring that Ashcombe remains both a premier sporting destination and a model of responsible land management.
